St. James

St. James Language Center opened in 1995. It primarily teaches English as a foreign language, although it also provides supplementary classes for high school subjects such as English, Spanish language and French.
St. James is not only committed to their clients but also to their staff. The school has a strong support system which includes regular in-house training, peer observations and level meetings as well as support with lesson planning. St. James also offers the possibility of attending TEFL conferences and finances other courses to its permanent staff. St. James is the ideal school for those interested in growing professionally in TEFL.
St. James belongs to the following professional organizations:
- ACEIA (the association of language schools in Andalusia).
- The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate Committee for PET.
- KET and CYLET exams.
- Trinity College Registered Examination Centre.
LOCATION
The school now has 2 centers, the original center in Ciudad Expo in Mairena del Aljarafe and a new one in Mairena Centro, also in Mairena del Aljarafe.
Some classes are also conducted offsite, in primary schools.
Mairena del Aljarafe is a thriving suburb of Seville approximately 8km from the centre and easily accessible by public transport. The metro station is outside the Ciudad Expo school and there are lots of bars, restaurants and shops as well as a large shopping centre close by.
FACILITIES
The schools have
- Classrooms with equipment such as whiteboards, CD / cassette players and air conditioning.
- A teachers' resource room with a library of supplementary material and teacher training resource books, computers with broadband Internet access, wifi access, a photocopier, 2 TVs with VCRs and DVD players, a projector and laptop for classroom use, an OHP, a video camera and a digital voice recorder.
- Equipped staff kitchen.
- A reception area with a student lending library of books, videos and magazines.
STAFF
Currently there are 12 EFL teachers, 3 Spanish support teachers for supplementary classes, a director, a director of studies and 2 secretaries. All EFL teaching staff hold a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language, such as the RSA CELTA. Some also have the Young Learner's certificate in EFL or the RSA DELTA.
STUDENTS
St. James mainly teaches extensive general English classes. The student population is mainly children (from age 4) and teens. Only about 10% of the students are adults. The levels range from pre-reading/writing beginner children to advanced (CAE) teen/adult classes.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Full time contact hours are 24 per week. Hours of teaching are typically from Monday to Thursday 4pm until 10pm and Friday 4pm until 8pm, although there may be some classes in the morning. Dress code is smart but casual. Polo shirts are provided which you are expected to wear Monday to Thursday. Students range from 4 years old to teenagers with some adults. All primary school students receive content based lessons on Fridays. A knowledge of Spanish language and culture is an advantage.
