Lexis Language Learning Centre
Granada City
Lexis Language Learning Centre is a professional language school dedicated to providing a rewarding and productive learning experience to both students and teachers of English. It occupies a prime site in the centre of Granada.
The School
The school was founded in 1986 and has a regular student body of over 400. We teach English to children (from 6 years old), teenagers and adults from beginners to proficiency level. A considerable percentage of our students are young learners. We prepare students for the main Cambridge ESOL exams, the TOEFL exam, and the Trinity College oral exams. We are an official Trinity centre, and members of the school staff regularly work as examiners and invigilators for local sessions of the Cambridge exams.
The Staff
At present there are seven teachers, a secretary, and two co-directors who founded the school and who between them discharge the functions of administrative director and director of studies, as well as teaching some classes. There is a regular programme of in-house teacher development, to which current staff are encouraged to contribute. We also attend the annual training day organised by our association, and occasional events organised locally by EFL publishers.
The Timetable
Most timetables begin at 4.30pm and finish at 9.30 / 9.45pm. There are very few morning classes and no Saturday classes. We finish at 8.00pm on Friday evening. The full-time working week is 34 hours, of which a maximum of 24 are contact hours, and the rest for the associated tasks of research and preparation, class administration and student assessment.
Facilities
- Bright, centrally heated and air-conditioned classrooms, all with modern furniture and whiteboards, a TV with video and DVD player and an audio tape/CD-player.
- A computer room with 7 PCs, each for two students, with headphones, broadband internet connection and a wide range of multi-media materials on CD-ROM. There are also PCs and laptops available for use in the classrooms, which are on the same internet network as the computer room and the administration.
