Terrassa, a town of 200,000 inhabitants, is an increasingly important industrial and commercial centre situated just 30 kilometres inland from Barcelona.
There is a National Park outside the town which attracts walkers and climbers, while surfers and skiers can easily reach the coast or the Pyrenees by road or rail.
Terrassa itself now boasts one of Europe's largest urban parks, complete with boating lake.
There are two train lines into Barcelona with a frequent service.
