Burgos

TEFL BurgosBurgos is a small city (approximately 198,000 inhabitants) in northern Spain. The former capital of the province of Castilla y Leon, Burgos is rich in history and it is the site of more ecclesiastical monuments than any other city in Spain, the finest example being the Gothic Cathedral, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.

Burgos, like many other cities in Spain, demonstrates the dramatic interplay between the historic and the modern, the city currently undergoing many exciting developments due to the bid for the European Capital of Culture in 2016.

TEFL BurgosAmong these developments are the openings of an airport which will fly to Barcelona, Mallorca and Paris, and el Museo de la Evolucion Humana (Museum of Human Evolution), which will take advantage of the city's close proximity to Atapuerca. Burgos is also located on the world famous pilgrimage, El Camino de Santiago, and thousands of pilgrims pass through the city.

TEFL BurgosAnother thing Burgos is renowned for is its climate. Winters are dry, but cold, with temperatures reaching -10°C and snowfalls are common (skiing is a popular sport among Burgoleses) and summers are dry and hot, often with temperatures above 30°C.

Burgos city is surrounded by many picturesque villages and it is within easy access of a number of major cities, for example Madrid, Bilbao, San Sebastian and Santander.
